Barry Major Named Executive Vice President-Mortgage Banking at Mutual of Omaha Bank

OMAHA, Neb. – Barry S. Major, former Chief Executive Officer and Director of Nebraska Book Company, has joined Mutual of Omaha Bank as Executive Vice President and Director of Mortgage Banking, Chairman and CEO Jeff Schmid announced.

Major has served on the Mutual of Omaha Bank Board of Directors since the bank was founded in 2007. He has resigned from the board to join the bank’s leadership team.

With more than $2 billion in mortgages added in the last two years, Mutual of Omaha Bank’s mortgage business has grown rapidly and is poised to become a national presence in the mortgage market, Schmid said.

“Barry Major has the background and leadership skills to further leverage our brand and bank in the residential mortgage market,” Schmid said. “His experience in regulatory management and e-commerce as well as the in-depth knowledge of our business and brand he gained as a board member will make him an invaluable member of the bank’s executive leadership team.”

Major joined Nebraska Book Company as its Chief Operating Officer in 1999 and was named CEO earlier this year.

Prior to joining Nebraska Book Company, Major held executive positions at SITEL Corp. including Executive Vice President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer and President of the North American Region. Between 1985 and 1995 Major held several positions in banking and with the FDIC.

Major holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska-Kearney and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking.
